Keystone Law is proud to be part of the UK Government’s legal trade delegation to Nigeria between 1 and 3 April 2019. Nigeria, with its potential to become one of the largest economies in the world, is a growing market for UK legal services.

This trade delegation to Nigeria is part of the “Legal Services Are Great” flagship marketing campaign from the Ministry of Justice which seeks to promote the UK’s £24 billion legal services sector overseas. This campaign was launched in Nigeria by UK Prime Minister Theresa May during her trip to Africa in 2018.

The campaign underscores the importance of the legal sector in the future of the UK as a global, outward-looking, free-trading Britain. The legal services sector is one of the UK’s greatest exports and has been supporting trade and commerce around the world for generations. Trade between the UK and Nigeria was worth £4.2 billion in 2017 and is set to double by 2030.

Crucially, this campaign will support major international companies to understand the benefits of the UK’s legal services and help them to identify suitable practitioners to support their business needs. In essence, it will encourage global businesses to choose:

  • English law to govern their commercial contracts
  • London as their seat for dispute resolution
  • UK courts and judges for rapid, impartial and independent decisions
  • High-quality, internationally recognised UK legal practitioners

Kash Balogun, a consultant solicitor at Keystone Law who is representing the firm in the trade delegation, said:

This trade visit will give us a valuable opportunity to meet and build relationships with local legal firms and businesses in the construction, energy, oil & gas, and finance sectors. I am looking forward to exploring the potential for partnerships and knowledge sharing.
