Rupert has a commercial advisory practice based broadly around commercial contracts and the management and exploitation of intangible assets. His work primarily relates to regulated and non-regulated outsourcing, data privacy and cybersecurity as well as operational contracts. Clients for whom he has worked operate in fields as diverse as hedge funds, PE houses and other retail and wholesale financial institutions, brewing, start-up technology, manufacturing and advertising and media agencies.
Rupert is a French speaker and member of ITechLaw. He edited the data privacy update to the AIMA Guide to Cybersecurity Best Practice, to which he was also an initial contributor.

- Advised Rohde & Schwarz, a German global leader in the field of communications, information and security products and services on numerous supply deals
- Advised Stewart GP/Jaguar Racing/Red Bull on sponsorship, asset supply, driver and designer contracts
- Advised Marazzi on the sale of clay mine in the Ukraine with a simultaneous long-term commercial supply deal
- Advised the British Bankers’ Association on the auction sale of the LIBOR index and consequent amalgamation of the functions of various financial trade association into UK Finance
- Advised Deluxe Media on contracts for the supply of media management services
- Advised Daido on research and development contracts, as well as supply deals for ball bearings
- Advising a provider of online compliance support to care homes and operators on their contracts as well as suppliers

- Advised ECI at both the PE house and investee level on GDPR liabilities and compliance

- Advised on the implementation of SaaS system for Shawbrook Bank

- Advised on Spear & Jackson’s brand licensing programme
- Advised Virgin Management on multiple IP matters 2006–2018, including brand licensing deals with Delta, Virgin Active and Virgin Money
- Advised The Marketing Store Worldwide between 1998 and 2018 on a wide variety of marketing campaigns including Shell’s Ferrari programme and McDonald’s Happy Meals

- Managed numerous issues arising between Robin Birley and Richard Caring in the context of 5 Hertford Street private member’s club
- Advised on asset management and advisory arrangements for EQ Hotels
- Advised Lulu/Great Scotland Yard Hotel on their development and management agreement with Hyatt
- Advised Arora on multiple management and operations agreements
Energy
- Advising Neptune Energy (spun out of Engie and run by Sam Laidlaw, ex-Centrica CEO) on procurement of its IT contracts for exploration-related as well as general business software
- Acting for investors in Bespoke Polymers, a UK plastics recycling and consultancy business
- Acting for investors in Ryepower, a waste processing business in Humberside, including making relevant applications to HMRC for applicable investment relief schemes
- Acted for Vivo Energy in relation to the procurement of SAP for their African network
- Acted for Air Liquide in the acquisition of a nitrogen plant in Angola, with a consequent contract to supply liquid nitrogen to oil and gas operators in Angola and around W Africa
