Simon Sutcliffe is an asset management industry specialist whose practice includes supporting ‘buy-side’ advisors and managers, investors in their products and services, ‘sell-side’ brokers and dealers, and investor services firms such as trustees, depositaries and custody banks.

Simon has holistic experience spanning a diverse range of institutions, investment strategies, and fund and product type, and maintains a large global network of relationships with other complementary service providers. He is outcome-focused and has been repeatedly relied on by his clients to design and deliver the right result, from new product launches to complex mergers to addressing serious regulatory challenges.

A particular area of interest for Simon is helping launch and grow entrepreneurial investment advisory and management firms pursuing venture capital, real estate and lending strategies, especially those with social and environmental impact objectives.

In addition to this, Simon assists investors in funds and other financial products with investment due diligence and negotiation to reduce risk, improve their contractual terms, and ensure investments comply with their standards and policies, such as ESG/sustainability or liquidity requirements.

Brokers, fund and investment services providers turn to Simon for support with regulatory compliance, business change, product development and efficiency and growth initiatives. He also acts for buyers and sellers in mergers and acquisitions events involving financial services enterprises.

Simon has worked as external or in-house counsel to a variety of financial institutions, including BNY Mellon, Credit Suisse, Macquarie Funds Group, BlackRock and BlueBay Asset Management. Prior to his legal career, Simon graduated from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and served as an officer in the British Army, undertaking roles as a battle tank troop leader and training officer.
