Villandry – Whatever you want, whenever you want it

Strolling down Great Portland Street in central London, or browsing the designer shops at Bicester Village in Oxfordshire, the aroma of freshly baked cakes, lovingly made dishes and coffee beans grinding may tempt you to call into Villandry - a French Mediterranean restaurant chain which offers something for everyone, whatever the time of day.

Grand Café Villandry is owned and run by Keystone Law client Philippe Le Roux, who previously established a successful chain of 11 restaurants from scratch under the franchise brand of Le Pain Quotidien.

Having sold Le Pain Quotidien in 2009, Philippe was looking for another challenge and took on Villandry, a restaurant which had been established originally in 1997 but had lost its edge as previously scarce delicatessen foods have become easier to find.

Both restaurants are very spacious, seating around 300 in Great Portland Street and 270 at Bicester, including patio areas. Each has a number of rooms, which Philippe has re-styled to cater to a different markets and as a result has successfully broadened the range of customers.

The flexibility of the restaurants means that they can accommodate a group of parents with young children in an informal environment in the morning whilst also providing a formal setting for business lunches. At the end of the day, one can wind down for a glass of wine and a meal, or pick up some delicious patisserie to take home.

Villandry in Great Portland Street also is lovely space for weddings and large parties, with a range of private dining areas.

The French patisserie selection provides a magnificent centre-price in the restaurant, drawing customers in for a wide range of take-away products which are made in front of the customer ranging from pizza and fresh pasta to cheesecake and French classics like tarte tatin. Villandry also provides outside catering locally from Great Portland Street.

Keystone property lawyer Graham Goldspink has advised Philippe on a number of property acquisitions and leases, including the site for the next Villandry restaurant in Lower Regent Street. The new restaurant is due to open towards the end of this year, and will offer a number of private dining rooms to cater to the business meetings market.

There are further plans to expand at the rate of one restaurant a year, if the right sites can be found.
